Internationally-renowned vet Andy Bathe, partner in the Rossdales Newmarket equine practice, and head of their Equine Sports Injuries Clinic, is working on several projects using Equinalysis’ video-based technology. With the building of a state-of-the-art, multi-million pound Diagnostic Centre underway at Rossdales, Andy is committed to providing clients with the best service possible, and is embracing new technology and techniques.
Andy is using Equinalysis to monitor and assess certain equine clients at his practice. The system records and collates physiological aspects such as a horse’s stride length and carpal, tarsal or fetlock flexion, providing a baseline of data; the screening is performed by trained clinicians, such as vets, farriers and other para-professionals in the equine field, and quantifies biomechanical data using a laptop and digital camera. Andy believes that slow-motion video analysis of a horse’s gait can be helpful to clinicians and farriers, as well as horse owners. “The Equinalysis technology offers us a very user-friendly interface,” Andy explains. “It has also been helpful to objectively measure parameters such as stride length, and has progressed beyond purely subjective gait evaluation. We have plans afoot to use the technology to assess horses with proximal suspensory desmitis, and also monitor the effect of shockwave treatment on angular limb deformities in foals. Rossdales is working together with Equinalysis to further expand the clinical applications of this technology, hence the ongoing work at our practice.” Visit: www.equinalysis.co.uk for further information about Equinalysis technology.
